Mandurah BB Club COMP 4 RESULTS

Singleton BeachMBC comp 4 was held on Sunday 8th July at Singleton Beach. The keen and
dedicated members were confronted with onshore overcast weather with
occasional rain towards the finals. With a building swell the decision was
to have a group vote on whether to hold the comp or cancel until a further
date. The vote was unanimous with the majority of the members huddled up on the lookout keen as mustard to hit the waves on offer. It was a bit
disappointing with the turnout and big props must go out to these members
who turned up to comp 4, really shows there dedication towards bodyboarding, rain hail or shine these guys are at every comp. Even though there was moderate onshore winds the wave faces were relatively clean with some nice bowly sections to bust out on. The majority of the waves would reform on the inside allowing riders to combine there maneuvers which made for some high scores during the morning.

Groms
There was a straight up final for the Groms. With all three competitors giving it there all, combining spins and rolls it was a close heat. Towards the end of the final George Humphries surged forward with powerful maneuvers to take the final with ease followed by Calvin Best in 2nd and Davis Blackwell in 3rd. George is in fine form at the moment after recently placing 2nd at the second round of the EBB State Titles. Keep an eye on this grommet in the future.

Cadets
With the usual bulging number of cadets at MBC comps it was a surprise to have a straight up final with the small turnout on hand. It was a really tight final as the first place position changed hands numerous times before the siren. Tight spin to roll combos were performed on the inside with the odd section on the sets favoring bigger maneuvers. In the end it was Tom Humphries who came out on top in 1st place followed closely by Dylan Brand in 2nd. Daniel Scott and Cameron Dicks placed 3rd and 4th.

Opens
The opens final was an interesting affair with Jono Russell sitting on the beach not realizing his heat was in the water. The other three competitors took this opportunity to open there wave count with some solid scores. Brendan combined clean maneuvers with big rolls in the rising swell, as did Michael Grainger. Abbott played catch up not really finding a decent section till his last wave before the hooter which launched him into a big looped roll off the end section. Jono struggled to find a second high scoring wave as he paddled out with about 5 mins to go. Brendan finished in 1st place with Chad just nudging Michael out of 2nd place. Michael and Jonno placed 3rd and 4th.

DK
Three of the Opens had to stay in the water for the DK final giving them back to back heats. Brendan, Chad and Michael were met in the final with grommie Miller Best. Abbott started off with a nice forehand hack sending spray off the back of a right hander to open his account. Brendan linked together spins and carves and was unlucky not to land his floaters. Pint sized Miller took on the on inside waves with spins and carves and Michael struggled with finding scoring waves. Abbott finished off with a backhand floater to seal the deal before the hooter.

Juniors
Mark Claydon, Jonno Russell, Corey Perkinson and Ryan Hands were stand outs all day and advanced to meet in the junior final. This final was one of the best we have seen all year in MBC. It was a pitty everyone was huddled in
there cars while a shower came through during the finals as the judges sat in the rain. It was an exciting final to watch with all competitors putting it on the line with Jono, Corey and Ryan receiving several high scores. Highlights included Perko launching a big tweaked invert off a left bowl then the next wave Hands pulled a big clean invert on another left. Jono’s ARS on a small left and his massive roll he launched off a closeout section. Corey managed to link a big forward spin off a section to finish with a solid roll and Ryan finished the heat with a combo of a forward spin to two clean rolls. It was a tough heat to judge making for a close result separating the top three by the narrowest of margins. In the end it was Corey’s day finishing in 1st place followed ever so closely by Ryan Hands in
2nd and Jono Russell in 3rd. Mark struggled to find the high scoring waves he needed but finished in 4th respectfully.
